Avon hosted Viborg-Hurley January 16th for a double-header. The girls took the court first, in a game that had fans on the edge of their seats, but as the final buzzer sounded the Lady Pirates found themselves down by 1 point, 59-60. Leading the scoring attack was Courtney Sees with 29 points for the night, Rilyn Thury added 15 and Kinley Doom 6. Sees and Thury each pulled down 7 rebounds. Lila Vanderlei had 5 assists for the night and McKenna Kocmich had 3 steals. The team shot 40% from the field with 22 of 55, 25% for 3-point attempts with 5 of 23, 53% for 2-point attempts with 17 of 32 and 59% from the charity stripe with 10 of 17. As a team, they committed 6 turnovers on the night. The boys took the court next and played a great game, but came up short as the final buzzer sounded 37-61.
