AVON PIRATES HAVE STRONG WEEK AT THE NET

The Avon Lady Pirates traveled to Tripp on Tuesday, September 9, where they swept the Nighthawks 3-0 to even their season record at 3-3. Rilyn Thury led the charge with 20 kills, 4 aces, and 8 digs. Brielle Voigt fueled the offense with 24 assists, while also adding 2 aces and a kill. Kaydence Metzger contributed 6 kills and 8 digs, and Jordyn Voigt kept the defense steady with 15 digs and 2 aces. Lexi Vanderlei anchored the back row with 11 digs, while Breanna Hento tallied 2 blocks. Rounding out the effort, Abby Gretschmann posted a kill and a block, and Bree Vanderlei added a block. The Lady Pirates’ strong team performance secured a decisive win and momentum heading into their next matchup at Alcester/Hudson on September 11.

The Avon Lady Pirates volleyball team hit the road Thursday, September 11, and came home with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Alcester-Hudson. It was a strong offensive night for the Pirates, led by Rilyn Thury with 11 kills. Kaydence Metzger, Breanna Hento, and Bree Vanderlei each added 7 kills to keep the pressure on the Alcester-Hudson defense throughout the match. At the service line, the Lady Pirates racked up aces across the board. Jordyn Voigt led with 4 aces, followed by Brielle Voigt with 3, Metzger with 2, and Thury and Hento with 1 each. Defensively, Abby Gretschmann stood tall at the net with 3 blocks, while Brielle Voigt added 2, and Thury and Bree Vanderlei chipped in 1 apiece. In the back row, Avon showed off its grit with a strong defensive effort. Jordyn Voigt paced the team with 24 digs, Brielle Voigt added 23, Metzger had 18, Lexi Vanderlei tallied 16, and Thury contributed 14. Hento (9), Bree Vanderlei (4), and Gretschmann (1) rounded out the Pirates’ defensive stats. Setting up the offense, Brielle Voigt dished out an impressive 29 assists, with support from Jordyn Voigt (5), Thury (2), and Bree Vanderlei (1). With the win, the Lady Pirates continue to build momentum early in the season and will look to carry their strong team play into their next matchup.
