AVON LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM KICKS OFF

By
The Avon Public Library kicked off their Summer Reading Program entitled, “Are You a Farm Safety Hero?” There were 41 Preschool through 6th grade children in attendance and about 30 parents, infants, caregivers, and volunteers. Our tiny library was packed and bustling with learning. Board member, Loretta Knodel, read “Staying Safe on the Farm” written in memory of a 7 year old Yankton boy who passed away in a farm accident. The children enjoyed making chicken crafts, eating chicken feed (Chex mix) and checking out books. The prize wheel revealed three winners who each received a $30 gift card to Bomgaars. Winners were Austin Ramirez, Burke Baade and Milayna Krcil. Five other children were chosen to pick prizes out of the treasure box, which includes boxed book sets. We will be giving away three $30 Bomgaars gift cards each session to those attending as well as $60 gift cards for the top reader in each of 4 age groups (including adults) this summer. Stop into the library to let Twila know what books you have read for our contest! They do not have to be library books to be counted in our contest. All families are invited to join us on Main Street on Monday, June 26th at 1:30 pm. The South Dakota Farmers Union will have a special farm safety interactive demonstration. BY Electric will also be on Main Street with a safety presentation. Snacks and water will be available in the library and Twila will be there to check out books. We are thankful to the Avon City Council, Avon Businesses, Wagner Bomgaars, Stephanie Miller Davis Foundation, and donors who have helped us make childhood literacy a priority!
