The Avon Lady Pirates hosted Gregory on Monday, January 12, for a make-up contest and came alive in the second half to secure a 50-39 victory. Avon found its rhythm after halftime, using strong defense and balanced scoring to pull away from the Gorillas. Rilyn Thury led the Pirates with 19 points while also contributing 7 assists and 5 steals in an allaround performance. Jordyn Voigt added 12 points for Avon. On the boards, Brielle Voigt led the Pirates with 9 rebounds, followed by Breanna Hento with 6. As a team, Avon shot 40 percent from the field, connecting on 18 of 45 attempts. The Lady Pirates were efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 8 of 20 three-point attempts for 40 percent, and finished 10 of 25 from inside the arc. Avon went 6 of 14 from the free-throw line and committed 12 turnovers on the night. The second-half surge proved to be the difference as the Lady Pirates defended their home floor and picked up the win.
