AVON ELEMENTARY TAKES TRIP TO PUMPKIN PATCH
On October 15, preschool through fourth grade went to the Podzimek Pumpkin Patch outside of Avon. During their time at the pumpkin patch, the students were able to play games such as put-put, basketball, and tic-tac-toe. They were also able to play in a sandpit and on a playset made from tires. Students could choose either a white or an orange pumpkin. The first grade class said that some of them carved their pumpkins, others painted theirs, and some of them used them as decoration on their kitchen tables or outside of their houses.
While at the pumpkin patch, the first grade class learned about the life cycles of pumpkins. They learned that pumpkins start as seeds, and that they grow on vines. The students also learned that the pumpkins grow from flowers off of the vines, and that pumpkins are green when they are small and turn orange or white when they get bigger. The first graders will learn more about pumpkins after Halloween, and they will be able to make pumpkin bread and butter to have for a snack in class.
Many of the students in the first grade class said they had a favorite part of their trip. For some it was having a break from school. Others enjoyed riding the bus. A few even said they liked when Bodi Podzimek’s dog followed them on the bus when they were leaving. One even said her favorite part was playing and picking out her pumpkin.
The Avon Elementary students who participated want to give a big thank you to the Podzimek family for letting them go to their pumpkin patch.
