AVON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PARADE OF LIGHTS
PLAN TO SPEND YOUR DAY TAKING IN ALL THE EVENTS HAPPENING IN AVON ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2021!
Stores will be open all day for your shopping fun, and then beginning at 12:00 noon, Tolsma's Cove is serving up chili until it's gone. You can give a free will donation if you like, to be matched by Modern Woodmen, proceeds go towards the 4th of July fireworks display.
At 1:00 pm, throw on those running shoes and your favorite costume and take part in the Frozen Foot 5K Fun Run/Walk! Meet in front of Jurrens Electronics about 10 minutes prior - there's a $20 entry fee - you'll get a fun tee shirt, a swag bag of treats and hot chocolate and Tyndall Bakery donuts when you finish. AND, there's a prize for the best costume! If you haven't preregistered, you can still jump in on the fun - we ordered extra tees!
At 2:00 pm, Loretta Knodel will be doing Christmas reading for anyone, young or old, at the City Library. From there you can head to the Fire Hall and play Bingo to your heart's content, (and hopefully, win some prizes) from 2:30 to 4:30. If you're not in a Bingo frame of mind, head over to the new Pirate Prep Childcare (the former Ferrelgas building) for Amanda Beeson's open house. Santa will be there to meet and greet and pass out treats. Bring your camera and get your own snap shot with the jolly old guy!
Check out in-store specials and shop at all the fine businesses in Avon and sign up for the Giant Merchandise Drawing all day long. All drawing tickets must be received by 4:00 pm. because the drawing will be held at 5:00 pm. Lots of good prizes given away, you must be present to win.
If you haven't yet, get your float ready for the grand finale of the day - the Parade of Lights! The Parade of Lights gets underway at 6:00 pm with line-up taking place at 5:15-5:30 on the south end of Main Street. New this year, and leading our parade, are our first ever Parade Marshals, Irene Eben and Ronald Mount. The categories for the Parade are Most Original, Most Lights and Kids Division, with three great prizes in each division. First prize - $75, second prize - $50, and third prize - $25. All parade entries will receive at least a participant prize of $10. Preregistration is not required, but is appreciated by our organizers. Stop in at downtown business for a registration form. Prizes for float winners will be announced immediately following the parade.
If you're hungry before or after the parade, Buchholz Country Style Catering is having a Hog Roast Buffet at the Pour Corner from 5:00 - 9:00 pm, serving steak tips, a salad bar and dessert bar.
