The Friday night lights were shining bright in Avon on September 19th, but it was the home team that truly lit up the field. In a commanding performance, the Avon football team overwhelmed Colome High School with a 67-0 shutout victory, fueled by explosive offense, relentless defense, and a total team effort that ended the game at halftime. The tone was set early in the first quarter when Avon's defense forced a safety, giving the Pirates an early 2-0 lead. From there, the floodgates opened. Quarterback Easton Sees followed the safety with a 39-yard touchdown run, then added the two-point conversion himself. Moments later, Caleb Tallman punched in a 3-yard touchdown run, and again Avon converted for two more points. The defense stepped up again, forcing another safety— Avon’s second of the quarter— before Sees found Trent Soukup deep for a 44-yard touchdown pass. The Pirates continued their onslaught when Zander Fathke broke through for a 10- yard touchdown run and added the two-point conversion to close out the first quarter with a stunning 36-0 lead. The second quarter picked up right where the first left off. Fathke struck again, this time with a 46-yard sprint to the end zone, and once more converted the two-point try. Not long after, Beau Tolsma had a a 58-yard touchdown run, and Dominic Doom booted through the extra point. Avon’s of fensive line continued to dominate, allowing Lance Odens to score from the 1-yard line, followed by another accurate kick from Doom. Then came the third safety of the night, adding two more points. Just before the half, Fathke capped off his monster night with a 54-yard touchdown run, and Doom sealed it with a final extra point to bring the halftime—and final—score to 67-0. Standout Performers: Zander Fathke was unstoppable, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns, adding two tackles on defense. Beau Tolsma contributed 81 rushing yards and one touchdown. Easton Sees tallied 39 rushing yards, a touchdown run, and a 44-yard touchdown pass, while also making two tackles and two assists on defense. Grayson Ratzlaff added 54 rushing yards. Defensively, Randall Powers recorded two tackles and a sack, while Avon’s entire unit held Colome scoreless and forced three safeties. By the end of the first half, Avon had not only secured the win but also made a statement.
