Avon’s 18U Softball Team competed in the Little Missouri Valley League Tournament on Tuesday, July 5 in Avon. In the first round #5 Avon took on #4 Tyndall. Avon jumped out to an early lead and held off Tyndall for an 8-3 victory. Emma Yost lead Avon with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI. Courtney Sees added 2 singles and Lydia Yost had a single. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, striking out 5.

In the semifinals of the winners’ bracket Avon next took on #1 Scotland. This time Scotland was able to get out to an early lead. Avon attempted a comeback but fell short 9-6. At the plate Avon was led by Sam Brodeen who singled with 2 RBI. Emma Yost added a single and a RBI. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, striking out 5.

In the losers’ bracket Avon was faced with #6 Menno to keep the season alive. In a game where both teams scored every inning Avon came out victorious in extra innings 9-8. Sees led the way with 2 singles and a stolen base. Reece Loewe, Macy Voigt, and Brodeen all had triples in the game. Katie Gretschmann, Lydia Yost, Ashley Tolsma, and Karlie DeVries all had singles. Reece Loewe started for Avon and struck out 5; Lydia Yost relieved her and struck out 2.

Avon was next faced with #3 Parkston in the 3rd place game. Avon jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. That would be all the scoring as the game was suspended due to inclement weather in the top of the 3rd. Emma Yost had a double with Gretschmann and Kinley Doom each with a single. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, striking out 2. The game will not be completed and Avon was awarded 3rd place.
