Avon's 18U softball team traveled to Mt. Vernon for a league double-header Wednesday, June 26. Game one started well for Avon, as they put up 9 runs through 2 innings. They were able to hold off a potential Mt. Vernon rally in the bottom of the 3rd and took away a 14-2 victory. Avon was led at the plate by Lydia Yost who had 3 hits, including a double, and 5 RBI. Emma Yost and Kaydence Metzger both had 2 hits. Rilyn Thury, Ravyn Medricky, Lexi Vanderlei, and Emily Dewald all had a hit in the game. L. Yost pitched for Avon. She struck out 5 in the contest on the way to the win.

In game 2 it was Mt. Vernon who would have the upper hand as they led 6-3 through 3 innings. Avon tried to mount a comeback but fell short with a final score of 9-6. L. Yost led Avon hitters with 2 hits and an RBI. Jordyn Voigt, Thury, and Kaeli Wallinga all added a hit. Avon left 6 runners on base and was outhit by Mt. Vernon 7-5. Rilyn Thury started for Avon, pitching 4 innings. She struck out 5 batters. L. Yost pitched 1 inning of relief, striking out 2.

Avon will wrap up the regular season at home vs. Menno on Monday, July 1. The league tournament is scheduled for July 9 in Freeman.
