Avon 18U opened their season on Tuesday, June 11 hosting Crofton, NE in a double-header. Crofton 2000011 4 Avon 301100X 5 In game 1 Crofton jumped on the board with 2 runs in the top of the first but Avon answered with 3 in the bottom half of the inning. Avon would add runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and Crofton would score again in the 6th and 7th but Avon was able to hold on to a 5-4 victory. Avon was led at the plate by Lydia Yost who went 3 for 4 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Others with a hit included Jordyn Voigt, Emma Yost, Rilyn Thury, Kaeli Wallinga, and Abby Gretschmann. L. Yost pitched a complete game, striking out 7 while giving up 1 earned run. Avon 4422 12 Crofton 4130 8 Game 2 was a higher scoring affair for both teams as Avon came out ahead 12-8. Avon was able to score every inning in the contest. Leading the way for Avon was L. Yost who was 3 for 3 with a triple, a sac fly, 3 runs scored, and a RBI. Ravyn Medricky, Kaydence Metzger, and Thury each had 2 hits. Voigt, E. Yost, Gretschmann, and Emily Dewald each added a hit. Metzger pitched 3 innings, struck out 3, and picked up the win. Thury threw 1 inning of relief. Freeman 20000 2 Avon 2214X 9 Avon started league play by hosting Freeman on Wednesday, June 12. Freeman and Avon both scored 2 runs in the 1st inning but Avon scored through every frame to pull away with a victory. Leading Avon was Thury who went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, 3 RBI and a stolen base. L. Yost and Macy Voigt each had 2 hits. J. Voigt, E. Yost, and Wallinga added a hit. L. Yost pitched for Avon striking out 12. Avon 352(11) 21 Freeman 2105 8 In the second game of the double-header Avon pounded out 20 hits enroute to a 21-8 victory. L. Yost and Thury each had 4 hits including homeruns. E. Yost, M. Voigt, and Metzger all had multiple hits while Medricky, Libby Kotab, Pria Sesler, and Lexi Vanderlei all added a hit in the game. M. Voigt pitched for Avon striking out 5. Avon will next be in action at Menno Thursday, June 20.
