The Avon 10U Baseball team had an incredible experience at the South Dakota 10U State Baseball Tournament in Elkton held July 18th–20th. Despite being on the younger side of the division, they played with impressive determination and skill, finishing the tournament with a strong 4-2 record. Their efforts earned them a 7th place finish out of 12 teams with coaching staff Nathan Schultz, Dwight Brandt, and Kenny Podzimek leading them along the way. Even more meaningful than their performance on the field was the recognition they received for their character. During the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Avon was honored with the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award, an accolade given to just one of the 12 teams. This award highlighted their respect for the game, positive attitude, and the way they carried themselves both in victory and defeat. The umpires had nothing but nice things to say about these boys. It was a proud and memorable weekend for the players, coaches, and families, showcasing not only their talent but also the values they represent. Way to go, Pirates!
