AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL- LAUREN SEES

By
Alyssa Mathis
Lauren Sees is in her fifth season playing basketball for the Augustana University Vikings. Lauren, the daughter of Joe and Janelle Sees and granddaughter of George and Renaye Sees, is in her senior year at Augustana. Lauren is in her last year of eligibility to play for the Vikings, but was able to play her fifth year using it as her COVID year. Sees is majoring in elementary education with a minor in special education. Lauren plays point guard for Augustana. Sees chose to become a Viking for several reasons. It was close to Avon, so her family would be able to come and watch her play and Augustana has had a program with a rich history of success. She has loved her college experience. Augustana really reminds her of Avon, in that it is a small tight knit community. Lauren enjoys her professors and getting to see her friends around campus every day. Playing for the Vikings, means that Lauren gets to be around girls that have become her best friends. Every day is exciting and fun because of her teammates. The team has great chemistry on and off the court. Playing for Augustana has been incredibly different than her time playing at Avon High School. Everyone is fast, strong, athletic, very good at basketball, etc. It definitely took her time during her freshman year to adjust to the pace of play and how every team is full of talented players. It definitely takes a lot of work and commitment to play at the collegiate level. Sees misses her Avon/AHS community. She loved being a part of a small and close-knit community. It meant the world to her to have worn an Avon Pirate uniform. She appreciates all the continued community support that she receives even now as a college athlete. Lauren is having a great start to her final season and has found her groove on the court. The Viking’s current record is 1-4. In the game against Central Missouri, Lauren scored 4 points and 2 rebounds. In the Viking’s second game against the University of Sioux Falls, Sees scored 9 points and had 4 rebounds. Against Dakota Wesleyan University, she scored 6 points and pounded the boards for 5 rebounds. She found her rhythm in the Concordia St. Paul game putting up 25 points and 2 rebounds. In the most recent game against Minnesota Duluth, Lauren lit up the scoreboard with 27 points and 6 assists. Sees has had a remarkable career playing for the Vikings. Last season, Lauren scored her 1,000 collegiate career point on New Year’s Eve. She is currently ranked 21st on Augustana’s All-Time Leading Scoring List. Lauren is only 10 points away from being in the top 20 rankings. Last season she averaged 14.9 points and 2.8 assists per game. She has been a 3-time All-NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) performer. Last year she was named to the 1st All-NSIC team. This season, Lauren was selected as the 2023 Viking’s Player to Watch. After graduating, Lauren is planning to stay around the Sioux Falls area, where she will teach and hopefully coach. The Augustana Viking Women’s basketball team’s next game will be away at Wayne State. Best of luck on the rest of your season, Lauren. The Avon community cannot wait to see how your season progresses and the great things you will do after graduating.
