MARK 8:34 "And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me."(KJV)

This scripture is making mention that those who would follow after Jesus, would deny themselves. This means that they will give up their worldly life that they have lived, and turn their life over to the Lord, and in so doing Jesus is saying that they should take up their cross and follow Him.

Now we know from the Bible Scriptures that Jesus did not carry His physical cross up the hill to be crucified on it, but that Simon of Cyrene was compelled to carry it up the hill for Him.

But in the Book of JOHN it says Jesus carried His cross up the hill. So what is the cross that Jesus carried up that hill?

The CROSS is another word for BURDEN. the burden of all the sins punishment for all souls and to die for them.

Christ calls upon believers to be ready to sacrifice their self interests and daily to bear reproach, and misunderstanding and shame in their service for Him.

Luke 19:10 " for the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost:(KJV)

Now He is saying that those who have been found (saved) should pick up their cross (burden) for those souls around them that are still lost. And we should follow Jesus in His example and in His burden to see those lost souls. saved.

To follow Him, He is our example to live as He lived, pray as He prayed, be obedient to God's Word as He was.

Following His footsteps of example, we will be blessed.
