ANIMAL FARM VS MODERN-DAY POLITICS
Avon High School seniors have just finished reading a famous novella. This novella compares modern day politics/historical events with communism in a place called Animal Farm.
Animal Farm is an amazing novella written by George Orwell, published August 17, 1945, based in England during the 1940s. In this book there are many similarities to historical events that happened during that time period. The main historical event that is represented in this book is the Russian Revolution, specifically with the USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republic).
Even the main characters in this novella represent people from this time period. Napoleon, a controlling and manipulative pig, represents Joseph Stalin. Snowball, a kind and considerate pig, represents Leon Trotsky. In the events, historically and in the book, Snowball and Trotsky were both used as scapegoats for Stalin and Napoleon. Old Major, a wise old pig that was the start of the revolution, represented Carl Marks along with some parts of Vladimir. Snowball, like Trosky, was forced to leave by Napoleon's dogs (i.e. soldiers).
Napoleon slowly started using his power and intelligence to scare the others into doing more work. In this kind of action, we see the similarity between Napoleon and Hitler, during WW. This book teaches the readers valuable things about a communistic society and how it has affected the workers and our world history.
