ANDES CENTRAL/DAKOTA CHRISTIAN TRACK PREVIEW

By
Alyssa Mathis

This year’s track season kicks off on their track season after weather related cancellations and postponements Tuesday, April 9th at 2 p.m. at Wagner Red Raider Invite. Their next track meet will be held Saturday, April 11th when they travel to Menno for the Menno Relays.

This year’s coaches are Cliff Johnson, head coach, and he is assisted by Jessica Brouwer, Diane Deurmier and Beth Harrington. Coach Johnson has been the AC/DC coach for the past 12 years. This season the team is returning eleven letterwinners after losing last year’s seniors, Isabella Brouwer, Anna DeHaan and Allie Muckey. The eleven returning letterwinners are Sabas DeHaan, Ty Archambeau, Kashton Garcia, Takoda Hare, Jamian Medicine Horn, AJ Johnson, Claire Johnson, Cambria Ronfeldt, Josie Brouwer, Kalee Dykshorn and Audrey DeHaan.

The AC/DC team’s strengths this season will be middle distance running events, the jumping field events, discus, shotput and their relay teams. The biggest challenge facing the AC/DC track team this year will be that they have a small team, so it will be critical that everyone keeps healthy and injury free. Although all of the high school team members are very capable of being team leaders this season, Coach Johnson is looking to Claire Johnson, Sabas DeHaan, Josie Brouwer and AJ Johnson to take up leadership roles on the team.

One of last season’s biggest highlights is that the team had eight team members qualify for the state meet.

Members of the 2024 AC/DC track team include AJ Johnson, Carlin Hopkins, Hunter Loeffler, Isaiah Milk, Jamian Medicine Horn, Kashton Garcia, Peter Backes, Sabas DeHaan, Takoda Hare and Ty Archambeau, Adara Hopkins, Audrey DeHaan, Cambria Ronfeldt, Claire Johnson, Halle Olsen, Josie Brouwer, Kalee Dykshorn, Leah Brown, Madilyn Janis, Mila Hopkins, Nadia VanZuidam, and Gabbie Olson.

Best of luck to the AC/DC track team on your upcoming season!
