ANDES CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT READY TO OPEN WELLNESS FACILITY

By
Debera Lucas

The final stages have been placed on the new wellness facility located within the Andes Central School. Patrons will soon see that changes have been made in both procedures and surroundings.

The District networked with a Sioux Falls business, Push Pedal and Pull, to design a workout space that best utilized the existing equipment. In addition to the traditional treadmills, stair climbers and weight equipment, the District purchased a variety of new equipment (including a Glute Ham Developer, Bench Press and Power Rack) for student, staff and patron usage. As in many modern facilities, the ability to utilize video equipment during workouts was important. The District installed a large TV so that those who are working out can watch their favorite teams (including the AC/DC Thunder) or hook up to training videos.

Previously, there needed to be someone who was willing to supervise in the facility in order to have the room available. With an update in entrance procedures, the facility has the ability to be accessible 24/7 to members. There will be a key-less entry system that will provide access into the facility. With an accessible toilet room in the area there is no need to enter into other parts of the school building. Security cameras are being installed for user’s safety, and there is a phone that is available for local calls should an emergency arise.

On December 17, 2018, the Andes Central School Board made revisions to the Weight Room Rules and Regulations. The changes reflect the revisions that have been listed above. The District is now accepting applications from the community for membership. Currently there are two options for membership: a three month or a 12 month time frame. Both residents as well as non-residents of the School District are eligible for membership. Two years ago a Business/Organization membership wasaddedforthosecompaniesthat wish to support employee wellness efforts. If you, as an individual, or your business/organization are interested in securing membership please contact the District Office

(605)487-7671 and visit with Mrs. Erica Svatos.

The center is easily accessible from the west side of the High School building. The entryway leads directly into the wellness area.We anticipate opening our doors for business on February 14, 2019.
