Mahpiya Irving

This week’s featured Andes Central senior is Mahpiya Irving. Mahpiya is the daughter of Darla Irving and Bear Hand Fischer Sr. Mahpiya is one of eight children and her siblings include Orin, Mia, Bear Hand Jr., Beverly, Wicahpi, Wakinyan, Zintkana. During her high school years at Andes Central, Mahpiya has been involved in basketball, volleyball, JAG, National Honor Society and Unity Club. Mahpiya’s favorite teacher is Ms. Candace Dvorak and her favorite class is Ms. Keizer’s US History Class.

Mahpiya’s advice for underclassmen is “strive to be the best at everything you do.” Decorating class floats and having pizza are Mahpiya’s most memorable high school moments. When Mahpiya’s time at Andes Central comes to an end, what she will miss most about high school will be basketball and her classmates.

Dayla Picotte, Mahpiya’s aunt, is the most inspiring person in Mahpiya’s life. When asked what she is most proud of, Mahpiya said “making it this far despite every setback.” After graduation, Mahpiya will be heading to Black Hills State University where she is excited to start her independent life. In ten years, Mahpiya sees herself living in her own apartment and teaching youth.
