Am. Leg. Auxiliary to Greer Post #11
Greer Unit#11, American Legion Auxiliary met on January 21, 2021 at 7 p.m., at the post home with seven members and one guest, McKenzie Roberts.
The meeting was called to order by President Juanita Stone. Chaplain Margie Stone opened with prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. The treasurers report was given and approved. Bills were presented by Linda Youngbluth and a motion to pay was made by Barb Kucera , motion carried. Communications were read by Margie Stone. Correspondence was read from District President Ruth Williams. Membership chairman Barb Kucera reported that we have 74 paid members. Goal is 78.
Unfinished Business: MidWinter Conference scheduled for February 19-21 in Oacoma has been cancelled. Finance meetings and executive meetings will be held on Zoom. The Oratory Contest will be held on Sunday as previously scheduled. Marlene Stone delivered 11 dictionaries to the Marty School3rd graders, of which we received a “ Thank you”. Poem and Essay applications were delivered to the Wagner School. There were ten pairs of sweatpants and jeans donated by Marlene Stone to Wagner School Early Childhood, and 30 pencils and two scissors for our Give 10 to Education project were also delivered by Marlene.
New Business: The week of February 14 is Salute to Veterans Patients. We will pay tribute and appreciation to Veterans; increase community awareness of the VA medical centers and the benefits of the VA to those involved and encourage volunteerism. New Ideas for fundraising were presented since old ideas are not in compliance of Covid 19 standards as of now. A few great ideas were presented.
The basket was won by Barb Wiechmann and donated back. As there was no further business to come before the meeting, Chaplain Margie Stone read the prayer for peace and President Juanita Stone adjourned the meeting at 7:40.
