AIRPORT CONSTRUCTS 4 UNIT T-HANGAR WITH AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM GRANT
The Wagner Municipal Airport received a Federal Grant under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to construct a 4 unit T-Hangar. The funds received for the project are 90% Federal, 5% State contributions from the Aeronautics Trust Fund, and the City is responsible for the final 5% of the project. The project was designed by Helms and Associates, Co-Op Architecture, and Mettler Sichmeller Engineering. The Prime Contractor for this Project Wagner Building & Supply. The contract was awarded in September, 2019 and construction of the hangar began March, 2020. It is anticipated that the building will be completed this fall. The 4 bays of the building will be leased to users of the airport for storage of aircraft.
Many municipal airports throughout the State of South Dakota have fielded requests for lease space within airport-owned hangars. These requests have driven local airport sponsors to plan and pursue construction of revenue producing hangars with their AIP funds. Hangars such as Wagner are planned or are under construction in Webster, Parkston, and Sturgis. These T-Hangars provide space for airport users without the hassle of jockeying aircraft around.
With construction winding down the new T-hangars will be available by October 1st. All four T-hangars were spoken for before construction started this past spring. The city’s other hangar is currently home to five other planes as well as one spot for transient aircraft.
