Howard Bich, a former teacher and coach at Wagner High School, recently competed at the National Senior Games in Des Moines, IA at age 85 1/2. He competed in the 85-89 age category and was awarded multiple gold and silver medals.
His partner, Kent Rolfing (Sioux Falls) and Bich received Silver Medals in Men’s Doubles Pickle-ball. Bich is the last remaining 85+ player in South Dakota and had to crowd source players from all over to round out the roster for his 3 on 3 basketball team, which was named, 'The South Dakota Pheasants'. The players to fill the team were from Illinois, Delaware, Maryland/New Jersey and New York. His team went on to win a Silver Medal for their efforts.
Individually, Howard received a Silver Medal in free throw shooting with a score of 19 out of 25 and won first place in three-point individual shooting skills event with a score of 7 out of 15. He also won first place in the Triathlon, finishing 20 minutes before the second place Medalist from Maryland.
