AG SUPPORT OUTREACH EVENT
DID YOU KNOW IT USUALLY TAKES CORN 90-110 FROST-FREE DAYS TO REACH HARVEST AND SOYBEANS TAKE OVER 100 DAYS TO REACH A DRY HARVEST STAGE?
Our rural communities have had an unusual year with wet conditions and flooding creating a tough farming environment. Extremely wet weather conditions, changes in road travel, difficult decisions on planting options and an uncertain Ag environment can create frustration and stress. Last week, Governor Kristi Noem and Avera issued a Public Service Announcement (PSA) in support of Avera Health’s Farm and Rural Stress Hotline. The hotline is free, confidential and available 24/7. The PSA gets the message out across the region that help is available, and that no one needs to face hard times alone.
As a way of showing support for our local farmers, the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital-Avera (WCMH-A) reached out to local farmers last week. WCMH-A held an Ag Support Outreach Event on Tuesday, June 11. Sixteen clinic and hospital employees, traveled in seven vehicles, canvassing the seven townships surrounding Wagner.
Staff went to the fields and active farms offering a snack, water and the hotline number. WCMH-A wants the local Ag community to know that they care about your well-being. The weather conditions and uncertain Ag environment can cause accumulative, tremendous stress which can be a heavy burden. You are not alone. Support is crucial. Reach out to a family member, friend or neighbor to talk and check their well-being. If extra support is needed, please use the Avera’s Farm and Rural Stress Hotline at 1-800-691-4336, 911 service or your local emergency room. WCMH-A, through the clinic, offers on-demand counseling services at your time of need—without an appointment. WCMH-A is asking the community to share these resources to show you care.
