ACT PREPARATION COURSE TO BE OFFERED TO AREA JUNIORS

By

Students often wonder what life after high school will look like for them. For those who know what they want and already know the path they need to take to obtain it, life is feeling pretty exciting right now. For those who have no clue what they want or what direction they should even begin to consider, the whole idea can be very frightening and the very thought of making a decision is often avoided when ever possible. Most high school seniors understand this situation and high school juniors are now finding themselves facing the unknown, realizing that reality is coming, ready or not.

While area seniors are getting ready to step out the door and enter the working world, juniors on the other hand should be seriously planning for that day now, so they are properly prepared. For juniors this may involve taking a college entrance exam to see if they can enter the post-high program or the college of their choice. For some, this is also an opportunity to see if they can qualify for some scholarship that will help them pay for the education they want to pursue. While not everyone needs to be taking the ACT exam, it is important for students to be aware that things change and deadlines come and go as do the opportunities that go with these opportunities. For this reason it is important for students to consider putting their foot in several doors at the same time. How to prepare for the ACT is often a big question for many. As in every sport, the preparation time invested often determines the outcome of the game.

For students who are college bound or think that this might be a possibility for them, please take notice of a special opportunity to help prepare for the ACT exam. The course is being offered at the Armour High School involving five evenings and a Saturday. The course is open to “any student” from “any area school” that would like to be involved. The class is entitled the “ACT Prep Course” and will focus on setting personal test goals, helping students develop more testing self confidence, as well as understanding test content and developing a testing strategy to help increase the students testing scores. The 18 hour intense course involves instruction, discussion, personal evaluation and several practice tests. The course is intended to help juniors who are planning on taking the test in April and June.

For more information about what is involved, the cost and an application contact an area school counselor for information or call Dana Sanderson, creator of the course, as soon as possible at 605-491-0804 or by e-mail at danasanderson51@gmail.com. Please note that the deadline to apply for the course is Monday, Feb. 14. However, the registration will end when all the seats are filled regardless of the date.
