The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder started their golf season April 5th at the Class B Classic that was held at the Mitchell Lakeview Golf Course. This season the golfers are coached by head coach, Darryl Deurmier who is assisted by Traci Niewenhuis. This is Darryl’s first year as the head coach of the golf team. There are both a boys and girls golf team.

Girl’s golf team members are Abigail Svatos and Danica Middendorp both of which are seniors. Ryder Niewenhuis is the lone member of the boy’s golf team and he is a junior. This is Ryder’s first year as a golfer.

Abigail has been golfing since she was a 7th grader. She has qualified for the state golf meet every year she has participated except for 2020 which was the covid year. Her seventh-grade year, 2019, Abigail placed 74th at state. Her freshman year, Abigail tied for seventh place. In 2022, she placed 23rd at the state meet. In her junior season, Abigail finished 10th at the state tournament.

Junior High golf team members include Taylor Brooks an eighth grader for the girls’ team, and Aiden Thompson and Lane Niewenhuis both seventh graders for the boys’ team.

The next golf meet, Burke-Gregory Invite, will be on April 19th at 10 a.m. and will take place in Gregory for the boys and Burke for the girls. The next junior high golf meet will be on April 16th with a 10 a.m start at Tyndall.
