The Andes Central/Dakota Christian girls basketball team’s head coach for the 2023-2024 season is Shane Niewenhuis. Shane has been coaching for 12 years. Coach Niewenhuis is assisted this year by Ben Kroese and Lisa Foley.

Senior team members are Claire Johnson and Neveah Morgan. Juniors include Josie Brouwer, Mahpiya Irving, Nadia VanZuidem, Leah Brown, and Gabriella Olsen. This season’s sophomore are Adaya Arrow, Rory Kiyukan and Halle Olson. Up and coming freshmen are Madilyn Janis and Audrey DeHaan.

TheAC/DCteamhadagreat season last year ending with an 18-4 record and winning the Great Plains Conference. The goals for the upcoming season are to make it to the state tournament and to win the Great Plains Conference again. The team will look to Josie Brouwer, Mahpiya Irving and Halle Olson as key players for another successful season. Claire Johnson and Neveah Morgan will be depended on for leadership and guidance as the seniors on the team.

Coach Niewenhuis sees games against Ethan, Centerville and Wagner as being the toughest/most intense games because each of those teams are top in their respective classes. A strong sense of team commitment and work ethic are what Coach Niewenhuis is looking forward to most this season. The team is made up of a great group of girls who want to be competitive and keep improving throughout the season. Players that are willing to give 100% effort is what Coach Niewenhuis believes is needed to build a successful team and basketball program.

The AC/DC Lady Thunder have their 2023-2024 season opener in Platte against the Platte/Geddes Black Panthers at 6:30.
