The Andes Central/ Dakota Christian boys’ basketball 2023-2024 season will begin Saturday, December 9th at 6:30 in Platte against the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers.

The AC/DC boys’ basketball team is being coached by first year coach, Gordon Hooks. It is Gordon’s 17th year coaching boys’ basketball, but his first coaching at AC/DC. Coach Hooks will be assisted by his son, Brevin Hooks.

This year’s seniors are Peter Backes and Anaias White Eyes. Juniors on the team are Ty Archambeau, Hunter Loeffler, AJ Johnson, Sabas DeHaan and Garth Maas. Sophomore team members include Takoda Hare, Kashton Garcia and Isiah Milk. Freshmen are Edward Ulrich, Jamian Medicine Horn and Jack Backes.

Coach Hooks had the boys doing individual workouts and attending open gyms during the offseason to prepare for the upcoming season. The team goal for the year is to improve as a team and learn how to work together better each game. Peter Backes and AJ Johnson will be looked upon to play key roles as leaders for the team. The Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/ Wolsey-Wessington game is the game that Coach Hooks feels will be the toughest for the team.

As the head coach, Hooks is most looking forward to being able to coach with his son, Brevin. They are both excited about the opportunity to work together with a great group of young men who are ready to work and give their all this season. Defense will be the key to this season. The team will need to be very defensive minded. In order to get the plays to work and players to work together, the team will have to show their passion and put in the hard work. Coach Hooks is excited to see what this season will bring and the growth of the team as the season progresses.
