4TH ANNUAL RAVINIA ALL SCHOOL REUNION

By
Loretta Soulek

On June 22, (in spite of all the rain and flooded roads) the Ravinia all school reunion held it's fourth consecutive reunion at the Ravinia Fire Hall. A couple of firemen and a few committee members started setting up Saturday morning as social hour started at 3:00 in the afternoon.

Carl Soulek welcomed 61 alumni and guests leading the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Richard Dvorak read the poem he had written about the past school and activities, followed by a prayer. Jan Schmidt Schiferl and Jean Ann Barkley led a sing-along 'May you run and not grow weary.' Dinner was then enjoyed by all, thanks to Chad Soulek who prepared the delicious meal of prime rib sandwiches, cheesy hash brown potatoes, and baked beans. Dessert was cherry and brownie bars prepared by Wagner Super Foods.

Carl Soulek reported that a sprinkler system had been installed at the memorial and Dave Honomichl gave the foundation report.

Master of ceremony, Ernie Ray Bures, introduced the classes and read some interesting words of wisdom on growing old and comparing old sayings to what our health issues may be today.

Jan Schmidt Schiferl and Jean Ann Barkley had fun with the crowd with their 'left or right?' Information about the town of Ravinia and the school which was open from 1917-1967.

The program ended with former cheer leaders leading the attendees with the school song, 'On Ravinia'.

The committee, Wanda Raabe Anderson, Jen Ann Barkley, Jan Schmidt Schiferl, Ernie Ray Bures, Carl and Loretta Soulek would like to thank the Ravinia Fire Department, Austin Weber, Nathan Mathis, Ron Lensing, Cole Christopherson, Mick Hanan, John Otte and Curtis Soulek for all their help. Chad Soulek for preparing the meal, Jan Barkley Martin for taking pictures and all the people that helped take down the tables and chairs. Thank you to those for the monetary donations and caretakers that keep the school monument area beautiful. See you next year June 28, 2025.
