2ND ANNUAL COMMUNITY AWARDS GALA HELD TO CELEBRATE COMMUNITY

By
: Kelsey Doom, Executive Director, Wagner Area Growth

Friday night was a night to remember for Wagner residents. The 2nd Annual Community Awards Gala, hosted by the local development corporation, Wagner Area Growth, welcomed over 115 individuals to celebrate the great people of our community. A table of beer, wine and liquor was set up for “adult ring toss,” the Wagner Area Growth Board of Directors served all a sit-down dinner of roast beef, potatoes and vegetables, and everyone finished by eating their “centerpiece” of dessert by Super Foods.

Kelsey Doom, Executive Director for Wagner Area Growth, reported on the successes the organization has had this past year, including implementing a “Free Lot Giveaway” program for those interested in building a home in Wagner, assisting in the development or re-development of nearly 22,000 square feet of commercial property, being part of over 40 events, commencing quarterly leadership dinners, and much more. Plans for 2019 include ground-breaking on a community sidewalk/trail project, hosting renown Top 20 Training, green space on Main Street, installing disc golf course, and bringing in a manufacturing company.

Lori Bouza recognized the Wagner Community School’s 2017-18 Teacher of the Year, and Patty Frei announced Rotary’s 2018 Citizen of the Year, Chad Peters, for all he has done for our community, including going above and beyond for families in their time of need.

Terry Koupal spoke on what receiving the 2017 Friend of the Farmer award meant to him before announcing Wagner Area Growth’s 2018 Friend of the Farmer, Roger Cuka, for his industry knowledge, work ethic and willingness to help.

Pat Breen, Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club, gave a heartfelt explanation of Jodi Zephier’s commitment to her work before honoring her with Wagner Area Growth’s 2018 Employee of the Year recognition.

Finally, Amanda Bechen, owner of Bechen and Company, CPA and Wagner Area Growth Board Member, announced our 2018 Business of the Year Recipient, Apparel WorX. Rachel Woods, owner, accepted the honor and gave a moving acceptance speech.

Wagner Area Growth would like to thank many people, including Two Spurs for their hospitality and food, Super Foods for the beautiful and delicious desserts, Vicky Koupal for the décor donation, Dana Sanderson for his equipment donation, and a wonderful team of volunteers who helped to set up, take down, and so much more: Alice Koupal, Rachel Woods, Jackson Woods, Vicky Kuhlman, Dana Sanderson, Lucy Leines, Roger Schroeder, Tracy Leines, Brenda Jaton, Mavrick Hill, Amber Hill, Scott Alderink, Scott Doom, Lynne Doom and Amanda Bechen.
