Fall is quickly approaching and with it comes Wagner’s most impressive mobilization of community as we prepare for the annual Wagner Labor Day celebration. This year we proudly celebrate 125 Years.
The Labor Day Queen Event, along the Boys & Girls Club, would like to present to you Queen Candidate, Brylie Link. Let’s meet this fabulous girl.
Brylie is the daughter of Todd and Lindsay Link and will be a Senior at Wagner Community School. Brylie plans to pursue dental hygiene at the University of South Dakota after graduation. She enjoys sports and being a part of a team, as well as spending time with her friends and family. Her most favorite hobby is baking!
Brylie has chosen to honor her female mentor, Lisa Schoenfelder. Lisa has been influential in Brylie’s life as an employer, master chef, and friend. Brylie has learned a lot about the “kitchen” from Lisa, who, along with her husband Paul, own and operate Choteau Creek Brewery. Brylie states her favorite recipe of Lisa’s is her key lime pie. Through this relationship, Brylie has been able to open her own pop-up bakery, “Brylie Cakes.' When asked how she came up with that name, she said it was the nickname that Grandma Jolene Link gave her as a child. Growing up, Brylie spent time with Gram Jolene in her kitchen making German dumplings and all things delicious. Brylie currently uses Koupal’s Kitchen to create her bakery goods. She markets her baked goods at the local Farmer’s Market and at Koupal’s Kitchen. She also takes special orders for Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions.
Brylie has chosen Shaylahni and Shaymiah Brother of All as her mentees. Brylie coached both girls in softball this year. Brlyie states that Shaylahni is fun to coach as she has drive and is very competitive as a pitcher. She said Shaymiah has infectious laughter and is passionate about encouraging others, especially her older sister on the pitcher's mound.
Brylie is sponsored by First Dakota Bank in Wagner. She has been very supported by Karly Schoenfelder who invited and encouraged her to participate in the Labor Day Queen Event.
This year marks the 125th Anniversary of Labor Day. The Labor Day Committee has records of Labor Day Queens dating back to the first Quenn, Joan Buus in 1961. As part of the anniversary year, the Queen Event will present a video montage of past Labor Day Queens. Here is a list of those past individuals:
