Crowned on Saturday June 1st at the Fish Days Street Dance were the winners of the Mr. Carp and Miss Bullhead competition. Those competing for the coveted titles were Cole Bergin, Cliff Johnson, Bradley Dangel, Tab Stluka, Joy Wenzlaff and Aubrey Gray. Cliff Johnson was crowned Mr. Carp and the Miss Bullhead title went to Aubrey Gray. This year after everything was totaled the group raised over $5,000. At the time of the kissing of the fish, both winners had to kiss their fish for 47 seconds. Here is a little bit about the winners.
This was Aubrey Gray’s first time running for the Miss Bullhead title. She was excited to be a part of this event because she knew it would be a fun way to raise money for the Lake Andes Community. Aubrey was very excited this year with the theme being “Circus”, and could not wait to see what the parade floats would look like. Her favorite parts of the Fish Days celebration are the food and getting to play the coin game at the carnival. As a kid, Aubrey always looked forward to getting to play the carnival games and would beg her parents to let her play. Aubrey followed in her mother’s (Nicki Gray) footsteps as Nicki won the title of Miss Bullhead in 2003.
For Cliff Johnson, this year was also his first year running for the Mr. Carp title. Cliff’s motivation for running was that he wanted to end the Stluka family run of being crowned each year. Cliff was excited to be a candidate for Mr. Carp as coming to Fish Days, he gets to reunite with his high school friends for the weekend and catch up with them. The pong tournament was the event that Cliff was looking forward to the most at this Fish Days. Every year he and his partner lose to a certain group of ladies, no names will be mentioned, but they know who they are. As a kid, Cliff looked forward to the rides when it came to Fish Days. He and his friends would ride their bikes to main street and do some recon on what rides would be available for the weekend. Earning the title of Mr. Carp is pretty significant for Cliff. He spent a lot of time with the Stluka family and the Stluka’s have had a strong dynasty of winners taking home the title. Cliff was hoping that if he won the title, that the Stluka’s would take him in as an official family member.
Congratulations to Aubrey and Cliff and the other candidates for being good sports and doing an amazing job of raising so much money for Lake Andes.
