2024 ANDES CENTRAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Mary Rae Carda taught at Andes Central from 1972-2003, and touched many lives in her time here. As a dedication to her career and altruistic nature, her children started a scholarship in her name in 2014 in the amount of $500, which was increased to $1000 in 2015. It is awarded to a graduating Andes Central senior who will be attending a post-secondary institution the year following graduation. This year it is being awarded to 2 seniors. The winners of the 2024 Mary Rae Carda Memorial Scholarships are Nevaeh Morgan and Hannah Tronvold.

The Randall Hills Country Club Scholarship is available for all area students to apply for. The recipient of the 2024 Randall Hills Country Club scholarship is Abigail Svatos.

The Fort Randall Telephone Company Scholarship recognizes a student that goes above and beyond for their community. The student who is chosen has exemplified the best experience they have had where they did something that benefitted someone other than themselves. The recipient of the 2024 Fort Randall Telephone Company Scholarship is Hannah Tronvold.

• TheAndesMedicalCenter Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who is pursuing a degree in the medical field. This year, 3 recipients were chosen. The recipients of the 2024 Andes Medical Center Scholarships are Aubrey Gray, Claire Johnson, and Hannah Tronvold.

Beverly Jones grew up on a family farm north of Lake Andes and graduated from Lake Andes Public School in 1948. She taught school in Mitchell, Pierre, Pickstown, and Lake Andes until she retired in 1974. Over the years, she received many letters from former students in appreciation of her role as an educator in their lives. As a dedication to her career in education and to the Andes Central School District, Beverly’s wishes were to assist in funding scholarships for students. Through her donation for scholarships, Beverly continues to touch the lives of students. The recipients of the 2024 Beverly Jones Memorial Scholarships are Claire Johnson and Hannah Tronvold.

The Alumni Scholarship is awarded to any senior pursuing post-secondary education. The recipient of the 2024 Andes Central Alumni Scholarship is Riata Bultje.

This year, there were 2 winners of the Charles Mix Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3239 Scholarship: Cole Bergin and Nevaeh Morgan.

There were also 2 winner of the American Legion Miley-Minahan Post 10 Scholarship: Riata Bultje and Claire Johnson.

The Blue Jean Scholarship is a scholarship from the Andes Central Staff Blue Jean funds. Staff members pay $1 for each Friday they want to wear jeans. Students who are pursuing a degree in Education are considered for this award. This year, the winner of the Blue Jean Scholarship is Riata Bultje.

The Build Dakota Scholarship is a highly-competitive full-ride scholarship offered to the best and the brightest students attending one of South Dakota’s four technical colleges. It is made possible by a generous donation from T. Denny Sanford, a commitment from Governor Kristi Noem, and support from outstanding industry partners. The scholarship was originally established in 2015 by T. Denny Sanford and Governor Dennis Daugaard. The program pays for all of the expenses required to complete a program in one of Build Dakota’s approved high-need workforce areas. It includes tuition, fees, books, laptop, tools, and any other requirements of the program. In return for the full-ride scholarship, students agree to share their talents with South Dakota by working in the state for at least 3 years following graduation. This year, we had 2 students who were awarded this prestigious scholarship. Claire Johnson for the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Mitchell Technical College and Abigail Svatos for the Agronomy Program at Mitchell Technical College.

Riata Bultje was awarded the CHS Farmer’s Alliance Scholarship, the Jackrabbit Journey General Scholarship and the Yellow and Blue Scholarship from South Dakota State University, the South Dakota FFA Gary Grey/Agriculture Education Scholarship, the South Dakota FFA Corn Utilization Council Scholarship, and the South Dakota Farm Bureau Financial Scholarship.

Aubrey Gray was awarded the Augustana Scholarship, the Diversity Scholarship, as well as other scholarships from Augustana University.

Claire Johnson was awarded the Kay Monson Scholarship and Avera St. Benedit Scholarship for entering the medical field.

Nevaeh Morgan was awarded the Living Learning Community Housing Scholarship, and the USD Dual Credit Scholarship from the University of South Dakota, and the Loraine Theater Scholarship, and Horatio Alger Scholarship.

Hannah Tronvold was awarded the Cobell Scholarship as well as the Kay Monson Scholarship and Avera St. Benedit Scholarship for entering the medical field.

Anaias White Eyes was awarded a scholarship from Dakota Wesleyan University for winning the Knowledge Bowl at the National JAG Conference.
