2022 SUMMER READING PROGRAM GRAND FINALE
The Avon Summer Reading ProgramFinalewasheldatHurd’s Dock on Sunday, August 7th. The weather did not look too promising earlier in the day, but cleared up in time for the festivities and turned into a gorgeous evening to be near the river. Thanks to Rick and Mary Hurd for hosting this event. This was an opportunity for families to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of the summer. The guest presenter was Sam Stukel from the Gavin’s Point National Fish Hatchery. He brought may different aquatic animals that can be found in the Missouri River. The participants got a chance to see the various animal up close and touch some of them. It was a very informative and interesting presentation,whicheven the adults in attendance learned from. After the presentation there were games, small fireworks, sand castle building, a potluck picnic, and S’mores.

Austin Ramirez- “I liked looking at the white paddle fish and touching it, touching the turtles, and touching the bullfrogs.”
Eden Walters- “ I’m hoping to catch some of the millions of walleye thattheyreleasedthissummer in the Missouri River.”
Hannah Walters- “It was cool to gettoholdababysnappingturtle.”
Hoyt Brandt- “I liked having guest readers all summer. I liked the guest speaker and learning about the different animals.”
Haley Brant- “I liked to touch the different fish and like that we haditdownattheriversowecould play in the sand.”
Mrs. Knodel- “ I loved learning interesting facts from the presenter that I can share with students in my classroom when we are learning Life Science.”
Our librarian, Twila Lukkes will tally up the summer reading entries, and decide who our “Big Reader” are. This will be announced later and prizes handed out.If youarestillworkingonyour “Reading Through the Alphabet” chart, you still have some time left before summer is officially over. Thank you to all the parents and day care providers who brought children to our library to participate in Oceans of Possibilities this summer!
