2020 SEASON SCHEDULE RELEASED FOR WAGNER SPEEDWAY
The new ownership and management group at Wagner Speedway is pleased to announce the racing schedule for the 2020 season. The group has worked very hard with sanctioning bodies and other speedways in the region to bring fans an entertaining and exciting campaign.
The group, which consists of owners Crystal and Kevin Manthey of Bonesteel and Kyle Moos of Naper, NE and managers Joel Namminga of Avon and Rod Pattison of Harrisburg, are very excited about the future of the track following the retirement of long time owner and promoter Lynn Fischer and the Fischer Family. In a statement, General Manager Rod Pattison expressed his appreciation for the Fischer family. “I can’t stress enough how important Lynn, Sherri and the Fischer family are to the history of the track. They put in countless hours and a large amount of their own resources to save the track from extinction and continue to operate the facility for all these years. They literally saved racing in our community.” Pattison goes on to show his gratitude for the opportunities given to him by the family. “I had been an announcer for many years, but Lynn saw something in me that allowed me to expand my career and put a lot of trust and faith in me and my abilities. This is a part of the business that certainly has its difficulties, but it is also extremely rewarding.”
The 2020 season will have a little bit of everything for all race fans. The divisions will include Late Models, B-Mods, Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks on a regular basis, along with a number of nights of the popular Late Model Street Stocks, three special shows featuring the Tri-State Late Models, one evening of the Midwest Non-Wing Sprint Cars and one night of the MSTS 360 Sprint Cars. The speedway is also working with another sanctioning body to try and bring one more class of cars to the track this summer.
B-Mods and Sport Mods look essentially the same, but have two different sets of rules on how the car is set up. The B-Mods will utilize rules similar to USRA rules and Sport Mods will run by rules similar to IMCA sanctioning. This will allow all of our regular drivers to continue to race with us and not have one division or the other have any unfair advantages.
Engines will fire for the first time at Wagner Speedway’s Test and Tune night on Friday, May 8th with a rain date of May 15th. This will be an opportunity for our drivers to get their cars ready for the season opener on May 22. This will be important for our drivers, as the track will undergo changes in configuration and major dirt work to improve the racing surface. It will be important for our staff as well, as there have been some changes and additions made to our team and it gives them a “dress rehearsal” type of night to make sure things go smoothly on race night. Details will be coming soon on Test and Tune night in the near future.
The season will officially open on Friday, May 22nd with Late Models, B-Mods, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and a special race for the Late Model Street Stocks, with more information coming closer to race time. The first of three nights of the Tri-State Late Model series will hit the speedway on Friday, May 29th. The speedway will race five nights, take the weekend of June 26th off, then back at it again with a big two-day show on Friday and Saturday, July 3rd and 4th, once again featuring the Tri-State Late Models both nights. This will be a big weekend with plenty of excitement over the Independence Day holiday.
Friday, July 17th will be a historic night, as for the first time since 2007 and the third time in track history, non-wing sprint cars will thunder through Wagner. The Midwest Non-wing Sprints will begin a two-day run in the region with Friday night in Wagner and making a stop at Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, NE on Saturday, June 18th. Wingless sprints appeared twice in 2007, with John Kaiser and Dylan Peterson taking the checkers.
The wings will go back on, when the MSTS 360 Sprint Cars will invade Wagner on Friday, August 28th and the season will conclude with season championships on Labor Day weekend. Race night that weekend will be announced at a later date, pending joint activities with the Wagner Labor Day Committee and their huge community celebration.
