1969 STATE B TEENER CHAMPS REUNITE
During the 2019 Fish Days celebration a group of teammates came together to reminise. These teammates were the 1969 State B Teener Champs, the Lake Andes Teeners.
It was quite a journey for the Andes Teener Baseball team back in 1969. They made the paper with quite a few wins and some losses.
The team started the season with three straight wins. Their third win was against Delmont 14-0.
The Andes Teeners than smashed Armour 15-1, Platte 13-3 and beat Geddes twice 9-8 and 2-0 bringing their record 10-1.
The Andes Teeners than were handed their second and third losses of the season by the Tripp Teeners . This followed some wins of 8-7 and 7-1.
The team later dropped Delmont 15-0. This brought their record to 11 wins and three losses.
The Andes Teeners defeated Platte 4-1 to win the District baseball tournament, this earned them the right to plat White Lake in the first game of the Regional Tournament. They won 5-3. After this winitwasannouncedthattheteam would get a new manager. Randy Vesely replaced current manager LeRoy Hiebel who moved to Yankton to become the assistant coach at Yankton High School. This did not stop the Andes Teeners they went on to beat the Gregory ball club 13-0 earning them a spot in the state tourney.
The 1969 V.F.W. State Class B Teener tournament was held on August 15th ,16th and 17th in Gregory SD. The Andes Teeners first faced the Region 2 winners, Tripp. They beat them with a score of 7-5.
In the semi-finals they faced Philip. They took the win with a 28-0 score in four innings.
For the Championship game the Andes Teeners faced Hurley. They took the Class B V.F.W. Teener baseball title with a 17-9 win. Although Hurley out hit Lake Andes 14-13, hustle on the base paths paid off for the winners.

The Lake Andes Teeners downed three of the top baseball teams in the state last weekend at Gregory and brought home the 1969 V.F.W. State B Championship trophy.
In Friday nighs action the Lake Andes Teeners downed Tripp 7-5 in eight innings. Leading hitters were Ron Nelson, Three for five; Dave Honomichl, three for four, (Nelson and Honomichl also had a double each); Joe LaBarge, Doug Brooks, Mike Miller each had one hit. Jim Holderby had two hits, one being a home run. The seven inning score was 5-5 to cause the extra inning.
Battery for the winners were Joe LaBarge, Dave Nincehelse; Jim Holderby.
Saturday night the Andes Teeners skunked Philip 28-0 in four innings. Leading hitters for the winning team were Dave Nincehelser and Joe LaBarge going three for five each. Mike Miller, Ron Nelson, Jim Holderby and Dave Honomichl each had two hits for the winners. Donald Peacock had one hit. LaBarge had a double and a triple, Ron Nelson also bagged a triple.DaveNincehelserhita home run for the Andes club.

The championship game of the tourney was held Sunday night on the Gregory diamond with Lake Andes Teeners face the Hurley club. Andes brought home the State B Trophy by downing the Hurley squad 17-9.
The leading hitter was Joe LaBarge going five for five. Ron Nelson, Jim Holderby and Dave Honomichl each had two hits. Jim Holderby had a triple and Dave Nincehelser had a double for extra base hits. Mike Miller, Dave Nincehelser and Sam Holderby each had one hit. Battery: Joe LaBarge, Dave Nincehelser; Jim Holderby.
Randy Vesely Manager, said in his story to his team: "I would like to congratulate and thank the players of the team for the effort they put forth in the state tournament. I also would like to thank the V.F.W. Post for sponsoring the team, for arranging the bus rides and for the meals. A big thank you to all the fans for the support given us.
