18U SOFTBALL TEAM UNDEFEATED AT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

Avon's 18U softball team c omp ete d i n t he L it t le M issouri Val ley Leag ue Tournament Wednesday, July 9 in Plankinton. Avon came into the tournament with an undefeated record and the #1 seed. In the first round of the tournament Avon took on Menno. Menno got on the board in the top of the first with 3 runs. Avon was able to score in the 2nd and 3rd, but took the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th as Abby Gretschmann stole home. Leading hitter for the game was Pria Sesler with 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI. Other hitters included Lydia Yost, Kaeli Wallinga, Brielle Voigt, and Rowan Brandt all with 1 hit. Macy Voigt pitched for Avon, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5. Menno 30000 3 Avon 01210 4 In their second game of the tournament Avon was tasked with Mt. Vernon Venom 18s. It was a close game with Avon able to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to mark the only runs of the game for either team. Lydia Yost (1B, 3B) and Rowan Brandt (2 1Bs) each had 2 hits in the game to lead the way for Avon. Other hitters included M. Voigt, Sesler, and Brielle Voigt. Yost pitched for Avon getting the win. She gave up 0 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 9. Venom 18s 000000 0 Avon 00300X 3 In the championship game Avon took on Menno once again. This time Avon was able to take the lead in the 1st and did not look back on their way to a 6-1 victory. Avon totaled 7 hits in the game coming from Jordyn Voigt (2 RBI), Yost, M. Voigt, Sesler (1 RBI), Wallinga (1 RBI), Brandt, and Kensley DeVries. Yost pitched for Avon, giving up 1 run on 3 hits. She walked 1 and struck out 8. With the victory Avon wins the Little Missouri Valley League for the 3rd consecutive year.
