By

The Wagner VFW Post 7319 14U Teeners traveled to Colome and Winner on June 14 and 15 to participate in their annual tournament.

We would face Chamberlain in the first round and easily came away with a 16-0 victory. Jacob Kotab took to the mound to earn the victory. He opened the game with three straight Ks. He ended up pitching 1.2 innings, fanning three and walking three. Tyler Ronfeldt came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings of the abbreviated game. Tyler struck out two and walked one as he gave up no hits.

Offensively, Kotab and Mason Milk had the big games. Kotab was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and three driven in. Milk was 2 for 2 with four RBI and one run scored. Ethan Gabel walked twice and scored as many times. Colton Zephier, Landon Ronfeldt, Cooper Slaba, and Austin DeVries each added a hit Landon and Tyler Ronfeldt and Connor Gabel each score two times while Slaba and Cooper Kuhlman each touched home once.

In the second round Wagner was pitted against the home team and looked sharp in a 13-3 victory. Wagner only had four hits but used a whopping ten Winner errors, six walks, and three hit batsmen to get their runs. Everyone in the lineup either had a hit, scored a run, or drove a run in. Connor Gabel and Landon Ronfeldt both doubled with Gabel scoring three times and Gabel twice. DeVries and Ethan Gabel singled and scored a run with DeVries driving in two runs. Zephier, Milk, Kuhlman, Slaba, and Tyler Ronfeldt each scored a run as well. Kotab had one RBI and two runs scored.

Colton Zephier was the man on the mound and he tossed a complete game gem backed up by some solid defense. He gave up three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out eight.

This victory put them in the championship game facing the team from Platte. In that game Wagner would have a rough first inning, giving up six runs, and that proved too much to overcome as Platte went on to win by a score of 13-5.

Connor Gabel pitched three innings and did his job. He threw strikes, walking only two batters. Platte did accumulate 11 hits and Wagner committed five errors during that time as only four of the ten runs Connor gave up were earned. Austin DeVries came on to pitch the final two innings. He gave up two earned runs on two hits while walking three and striking out two.

Milk had the big bat for Wagner as he was 3 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored. Landon Ronfeldt also continued to swing a hot bat as he collected two hits. Tyler Ronfeldt singled and drove in one while Colton Zephier singled and scored one. Ethan Gabel had the other Wagner hit while Connor scored twice.
