On Monday, June 23, the Wagner VFW Post 7319 14U teeners traveled up to Canova to take on the Gang and lost a heartbreaker in extra innings by a score of 6-5.
Connor Gabel threw the first five innings. He allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits while walking four and striking out one. Tyler Ronfeldt relieved Gabel and threw three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three. Landon Ronfeldt then came on in the ninth and final inning and allowed one run on three hits, a walk, and a hit batter.
At the plate for Wagner, Tyler Ronfeldt collected three hits and scored two runs to lead the way. Colton Zephier, Jackson Woods, and Ruger Loeffler all had two hits with Zephier and Woods each scoring a run and Loeffler driving one in. Cooper Slaba added an RBI groundout.
This was a tough game to lose with many plays on both sides going one way or the other that would have made the difference. But these boys played a good, hard fought game, and learned some things as they went.
