William Wapaha Un Waokiye “Akicita” died Friday, September 1, 2023 at the V.A. Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were Wednesday, September 6 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. Burial was in the Greenwood Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Greenwood, with military honors. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

William passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at Sioux Falls Veterans Healthcare Facility, he was in palliative and hospice care.

Bill joined the Navy-USN on June 12, 1973, where he was stationed in San Diego, CA upon discharge.

Bill was very proud and honored to represent veterans at Pow-wows and any other gatherings, he was always willing to help his fellow veterans carrying flags.

Bill was honored and presented with his Dakota name by his family “Wapaha Un Waokiye Akicita,” solider who helps with eagle staff.

Thankful for having shared his life with his daughters, sons, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His brother Dale R. Williamson, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

Bill was preceded in death by his dad Richard and mother Batherine; brothers: John, Richard, and Wayne Williamson; half brother Rob White Shield Jr. and sister Barbara Williamson and his lifelong companion Barbara Harrison.
