The Wagner Rotary Club gathered for a regular meeting on Wednesday August 29th back at the clubhouse on Main Street. In case you didn’t notice we have not had a Rotary Report the last two weeks. This was due to special events during that time consisting of a reception for teachers at WCS, serving root beer floats on Crazy Days and building our annual Labor Day Float.

Rotarian Glenn Hofer gave the blessing with thanksgiving for the beautiful fall day, our food and fellowship. An extra blessing was given for the family of Stanley Peters and for former Rotarian Romaine Kocer who is very ill.

Rotarian Jerry Henke announced the opening song would be the Battle Hymn of the Republic in honor of Senator John McCain who passed away a week ago.

The Membership Minute was given by Ken Cotton who used an article from our monthly Rotarian magazine that all Rotarians receive on “How to Attract new Rotary Members. There were seven guidelines listed that were all excellent suggestions.

The Assistant Sergeant proved to be very capable at her job as she did not miss even one Rotarian in attendance.

Sec/Treasurer Patty Frei reported the attendance race pretty much at a standstill as the club did not keep track of members during the recent club activities. The Henke Team still had 4 misses today with a total of 13 and the Frei Team had 2 misses with a total of 19 misses. The total of the card can stands at $841.00 which Bill Frei did NOT win as he only drew an 8 of Hearts.

Scott McAdaragh introduced his program which was Jamie Tjdeersma who is the Chairperson of the Wagner Swimming Pool endeavor. The present swimming pool was constructed in the late 1950’s and was a community effort in fundraising and volunteers did much of the physical building themselves.

She quickly outlined the groups objectiveswhichare toraiseanend total of $3Million for a new swimming pool. The City of Wagner has committed to budgeting $200,00,00 tothisprojecteach yearforthenext five years. The City approves of the project as providing opportunities to the youth of Wagner is important for the growth of the community.

Their Steering Committee consists of herself, Erica Kotab, Sherri Fuchs, Ann Metzger, and Wee Conroy. They also are forming other teams under the committee who want to volunteer their time and energy. This is a good way for everyone to get involved and several activities can be planned and carried out. She listed several projects that are planned all of which sounded like worthy projects. They will use all available media: FB, newspaper ads, flyers, postcards and are seeking people who have expertise in grant writing. Jamie answered several questions concerning the new pool and the main question is always “What will you do if you can’t raise the required amount”. The group has established an account into which all monies will be deposited. If they don’t have the required amount in 5 years they would return to the City of Wagner to possibly consider a bond issue which would required a vote by the public to pass. Tjdeersma

All contributions are tax deductible. If you are interested in getting involved call Jamie or another member of the committee.
