Funeral Mass for Vit Krcil, 88, of Wagner was Friday, November 1 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. Burial was in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Dante with military honors. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Vit J. Krcil was born on a farm west of Dante on February 21, 1931, the son of Joseph, Sr. and Mary (Konfrst) Krcil. He died Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Wagner Good Samaritan Society.

Vit attended Lone Tree county school through the eighth grade. Vit then helped on the family farm until being drafted in 1952. He served during the Korean War as a Marine until 1954. Vit started farming south of Wagner in 1955. He met the love of his life, Mildred Hron in 1956 and on September 17, 1957 Vit and Mildred were united in marriage. Vit continued to farm and also sold Archer Oil and Vigortone Feed. In 1987 Vit and Mildred moved into Wagner.

Vit served on the Lawrence School Board, was the treasurer for Catholic Workmen, was a lifetime member of the VFW and worked many years at the VFW Wednesday night bingo. Vit and Mildred attended many polka dances, polka festivals and enjoyed lots of square dancing. They also liked going to the casino and took many bus trips with friends.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Mildred of Wagner; four children: Patricia (Ron) Pavel of Lesterville, Robert (Beth) Krcil of Wagner, Daniel (Tracey) Krcil of Wagner, and Ruth (Rod) Bergin of Lake Andes; 11 grandchildren: Michael (Kayla) Pavel, Dawn (Jeremy) Coudron, Amanda (Brent) Bult, Angela (Ryan) Nutter, Nick Pavel, Alycia (Stan) Green, Cassandra (Scott) McNinch, Kelsey (Corey) Debey, Ryan (Anna) Krcil, Rachel (Josh) Kaczor and Rick (Megan) Bergin; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers: Joe (Irene) Krcil and Tony (Rita) Krcil, both of Wagner; sister Dorothy Dixon of Wagner; sisters-in-law: Linda Krcil of Avon and Judy Krcil of Wagner; many nieces and nephews and special friend Elsie.

Vit was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Frances (Steve) Walloch and Mary Ann (William) Grills; brothers: Frank and Tom Krcil; brother-in-law Jim Dixon and niece, Amy Krcil.
