Terry H. Kaul, 73, of Springfield, passed on Thursday, July 29 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 on Wednesday, August 4, at Danzig Baptist Church.

Visitation was Tuesday, August 3, at Danzig Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Danzig Baptist Cemetery, Rural Avon. Terry Herman Kaul was born on March 27, 1948 to Herman and Fae (Mattis) Kaul in Avon, SD. He graduated from Tyndall High School in 1966, and then attended Southern State College, earning his trade degree in Carpentry in 1969.

Terry was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 10,1969 and deployed to Vietnam in November of 1969 where he served in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, a “boots on ground” unit, through October 1970. While on leave, he married the love of his life, Jonna Hebner, on November 14, 1970 and then fulfilled his service to our country at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. The couple was blessed with four children during their marriage.

Terry spent his life working in carpentry and woodworking, as well as farming with his father, Herman, on their family homestead eight miles northwest of Tyndall. His creativity in construction and woodworking never ceased to amaze his family and friends. Cabinetry and homemade gifts were his specialties.

Terry and Jonna spent their semi-retired days at their home in Springfield after moving from the farm in 2012. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing with his friends, woodworking, and visiting at morning coffee hour. He rarely missed a service at Danzig Baptist Church, which he served in many ways through the years, including as a deacon and trustee.

Terry was proud of his service in Vietnam, and in recent years reunited with his comrades from the “Black Horse Troop” at their 50th reunion. They were a very special part of his life.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Terry went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital at the age of 73 years and four months.

Thankful for having shared his life, Terry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jonna, of Springfield; two sisters, Barb (Ralph) Bauder of Yankton and Diane (Dave) Hohn of Sioux Falls; four children, Melissa (Jeremy) Bruna of Tyndall, Dawn (Clint) Lewis of Arlington, NE, Erin (Matt) Weerheim of Brandon and Matthew (Elise) Kaul of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fae in 2008 and Herman in 2019, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
