Services for Sylvia Meiers, 95, of Avon were Sunday, September 6 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avon. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon was in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia Meiers was born November 2, 1924 at home in Avon, the daughter of John and Mary (Placek) Kocmick. She died Thursday, September 3, 2020 at her home at the Meadow View Manor in Avon.

Sylvia was baptized January 11, 1925 at the Assumption Church in Dante. She attended school for ten years.

Sylvia married Lauren Meiers on November 4, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. They were blessed with six children and 70 years of marriage.

Sylvia helped with the farming operations. She also cooked at the sale barn and worked at Mensch Greenhouse for many years. She also served as janitor at Zion Lutheran Church. Sylvia was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

She loved to garden and preserve the bounty of her produce. Sylvia was a wonderful cook and baker and loved to feed her family and friends. Her specialty was fried chicken, potato dumplings and sauerkraut.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Patricia Pier of New Castle, CO, Carla (Gary) Sternhagen of Douglas, WY, Keith Meiers and Scott (Bonnie) Meiers of Avon; ten grandchildren: Jonathan Pier, Michael Pier, Jason Sternhagen, Lance Sternhagen, Tanesia Sternhagen, Nicole Meiers, Joseph Meiers, Michaela (Andy) Schultz, Caitlyn (Hal) Schroeder, MacKenzie Meiers; four great grandchildren: Austin Robinett, Chance Robinett, Kaedance Sternhagen and Khloe Sternhagen; sisters-in-law: Darleen Bye of Dell Rapids, Donna Meiers of Huron, Dona Meiers of Avon; and brother-in-law Earl Schuemacher of Monticello, MN.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lauren Meiers on July 19, 2017, son, Ronald Meiers, daughter Jacqueline Tlamka, granddaughter Brandy Sternhagen, brothers Jim Kocmick and Robert Kocmick; sisters Violet Jenison and Janis Schuemacher; and sisters-in-law Joan Kocmick, Emma Kocmick and brother-inlaw Clarence Jenison.
