Shirley Mae Broz, 88, of Wagner died Monday, November 20, 2023 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services were Monday, November 27 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Wagner. Peters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Mae Broz was born July 27, 1935 to Howard and Verna Carpenter. She grew up on a farm south of Delmont. After she graduated from Delmont Hight School in 1953, she married the love of her life Bob Broz on June 7, 1953. To this marriage they were blessed with two children: Douglas and Cheryl.

After living one year in Huntsville, AL while Bob was in the service, they returned to the farm north of Wagner for 64 years.

Shirley helped Bob on the farm and also worked outside the home at Head Start in Wagner, Fonder Fashions, and the ROCS office in Lake Andes. At the age of 49, Shirley attended two years of college at Dakota Wesleyan University.

She loved reading and visiting with family and friends. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending time with them on the farm or attending their sporting events. Family was so important to her.

Thankful for having shared her life is her husband of 70 years Bob Broz; son Douglas Broz of West Richland, WA; daughter Cheryl (Mike) Deibert of Bridgewater; grandchildren: Scott (Amy) Deibert, Steven (Julie) Deibert, Ryan (Jennifer) Deibert, Eric (Laura) Deibert, and Christopher (Jenni) Broz; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Verna Carpenter and brother Norman (Marilyn) Carpenter.
