SCOTLAND INVITATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY MEET

On Thursday, September 6, The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder Cross Country team traveled to Scotland to participate in their Invitational Meet. The Meet started with the Varsity Girls (5000 meters) race. The top placer for the Thunder was Isabella Brouwer who placed 4th, behind area top runners Lindsey Roth of Ethan/ Parkston and Allie Hough and Ella Byers of Chamberlain. Isbaella covered the 5K course in a personal record time of 20 minutes and 42 seconds. Hannah Hansum, also ran the girls varsity race finishing in 31st place.

In the Girls Junior Varsity race Sonya Hansum earned a JV medal placing 9th in the 4K race with a time of 19 minutes flat. In the boys’ JV 4K, Peter Backes ran a great race placing 4th in 16:03. Tony Hansum also medaled placing 14th with a time of 17:41.

Sixth grader Kalee Dykshorn finished 3rd (12:48) in the Girls 3K Middle School Division and Ryder Niewenhuis came in 16th (13:00) in the Boys Middle School race.

Coach Larry Lucas commented, “The team is doing extremely well. Iam extremelyproudof howeveryone is committed to their training and working to improve their times and places at our meets. The best way we can improve, in my mind, is the long slow distance run. This week is a big week. We will be at Pickstown and Chamberlain.”

The top teams at the Scotland Meet were Chamberlain in the girls and Ethan/Parkston for the boys.
