Funeral services for Sandra D. Pier, 86, of Avon were held Wednesday, February 21 at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. Burial was in the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon. Peters Funeral Chapel of Avon was in charge of arrangements.

Sandra D. Pier was born May 8, 1937 to Harold and Irma (Steele) Stevens in Sioux City, IA. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Tyndall Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the age of 86.

Sandy grew up in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Central High School. She graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Sandy married Bill Pier March 28, 1958. They moved to DeSmet where Bill worked in the bank and Sandy taught kindergarten. Bill and Sandy moved back to Avon in 1963 to help with the family-owned Community Bank.

Sandy was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, who would do anything for her family. She loved reading, playing cards, playing piano, singing in the church choir, and meeting up with her daily coffee group. Sandy was active in Reading Club, UPW, was an Avon ambulance EMT, Avon Lioness Club, active in the Chamber of Commerce, and Avon City Council. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and served as the Session Clerk for many years. Sandy loved raising her children in small town Avon.

Sandy is survived by her son Mark and Roxie Pier of Crofton, NE; daughter Cindy and Jim Helling of Mt. Vernon; daughter Sally and Jay Weber of Avon; daughter Tracy and Andrew Lukkes of Alta, IA; daughter Holly and Guy Helmer of Ames, IA; brother Steve and Nancy Stevens of Aurora, CO; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Bill; parents; sister Betty Meyer; and two grandchildren.
