Funeral services for Rodney Hartley were Thursday, September 16 at the All Tribes Fellowship Church in Wagner.

Rodney Richard Hartley was born June 11, 1955 in Wagner to Joseph and Arvella (Punk Greger) Hartley. He passed away on September 11, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Rod had attained the age of 66 years and three months.

Rod attended school in Wagner where he graduated in 1973. He then went to work for JE “Joker” and Lynn Fischer at Fischer Enterprises doing auto body work for a few years.

He then moved to Michigan and lived with his sister Jean and her family for a short time and worked at an auto body shop. He then moved to California for a couple years and worked as a security guard for a home development company.

After moving back to Wagner, Rod married Mary Gunhammer on October 5, 1984.

During this time Rod went to work for Fischer Farms for about five years taking care of horses at night, which he dearly loved.

Rod moved to Omaha shortly after to live with his sister Penny and her family and helped take care of their mom until her passing in 2006. He moved back to Wagner shortly after to help out his brother Bill in the auto salvage business which he continued to do up until his passing.

Rod loved hunting for old artifacts, collecting WWII memorabilia, trying to fix electronics and cruising around.

Rod leaves behind his special girl Jessica Avant of Avon, sister Jeanne Morrison of Omaha, NE; his brother Bill (Arlys Johnson) Hartley of Wagner; his brother Tom (Linda) Hartley of Wagner; his sister Penny (Bob) Peters of Omaha, NE; stepdaughter Maria Gunhammer of Wagner and many nieces and nephews.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents and his brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Morrison.
