A funeral service for Richard Honomichl, age 80 formerly of Pleasantville, was held Tuesday, April 13 at the Mason Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Pleasantville Cemetery. Richard John Honomichl was born February 10, 1941 in Wagner, the son of Frank and Mary (Soukup) Honomichl.

He was raised on the family farm in Wagner. Following high school graduation, Richard served in the National Guard. For most of his working years, Richard was a crane and dredge operator and farmed part time. He worked in many states and Australia prior to retirement. On November 20, 1982 Richard was united in marriage to Suzette Bauder in Elk Point. The couple moved to Hartford, Iowa and later to Pleasantville, Iowa. During this time, Richard served as an instructor for crane and dredge operators at a school in Indianola, Iowa.

In his spare time, Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing but his true love was collecting and restoring antique tractors. In his younger years he also owned his own plane and had his pilot’s license.

Richard passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 80 years with his sister, Shirley Smith at his side. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Suzette and siblings: Betty Carda, Frances Williams, Ben K., Donald F. and Norman G. Honomichl.

Those left to honor Richard’s memory include his children: Brian (Leesa) Honomichl of North Carolina, Jason Vrba of Indianola, Iowa and Whittney Conners; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Smith and a host of nieces and nephews and their families.
