Funeral services for Richard Hare were Saturday, January 7 at the Marty Community Center. Burial was in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Marty. Wake services began Thursday at the Marty Community Center. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Richard C. Hare, Jr. was born on December 2, 1980 at Wagner Indian Health Service to Richard “Dicky” Hare and Carol Herman. He died Sunday, January 1, 2023 west of Wagner, the result of a vehicle/pedestrian accident. Richard, also known a “Lil Rich” or “Stitch”, lived in Wagner. He was a well-known Pow-Wow singer that traveled throughout Indian Country to share his songs and beautiful voice.

Richard grew up around his grandparents at the Rising Hail Colony and attended school in Marty. As a young man, he learned to sing from his dad Dicky and grandpa Pat Crowe. Lil Rich joined the Rising Hail Singers from Marty and had been a part of the group for around 30 years. His lead singing will surely be missed by the rest of the crew.

Richard is survived by his mom Carol, his brothers Thomas and Eric, sisters Hannah, Carrier, Shannon and Alicia along with many relatives.

During his life, the songs of our people meant much to him and those who knew Stitch respected him for that and he in return respected these songs.
