Patrick Hatwan, 70, of Mitchell, formerly of Lincoln, NE, died Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his home in Mitchell with family present. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Patrick “Pat” Joe Hatwan was born March 17, 1950 to Roland and Anna Mae (Pentzer) Hatwan. Pat started school in Pickstown, moved to Pierre until the 9th grade. He returned to Pickstown for graduation in 1968. During his high school years, he participated in cross country, basketball (1968 District champs and Regional Tournament participants), and track (1968 State qualifier in long jump). Pat attended and played basketball for Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. He joined the SD National Guard and served in Bosnia during 1996 (Operation Joint Endeavor).

Pat was joined in marriage to Maryl Ackerman in 1970 in Mitchell. To this union were born: Angela Hatwan-Carda of Sioux Falls, Heather Hatwan of Nederland, CO, Stephanie (Kam) Farrokhi of Spearfish, Lindsey Hatwan of Mitchell, David (Amber) Hatwan of Mitchell, Megan (Paul) Savage of Sioux Falls and Jonathan (Amanda) Hatwan of Mitchell. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one on the way and one great-grandchild. The couple divorced, and Pat later married Lynn Elder-Meagher in 2008 in Lincoln, NE.

Pat leaves behind sisters: Jeanie (Randy) Larson of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Lori (Danny) Slaba of Renner, Karen (Waldon) Olson of Pickstown, Kathy Svatos of Yankton, brother, Dale (Susan) Hatwan of Centralia, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Rayne Hatwan, nephew, Jason Slaba and brother-in-law, Dean Svatos.
