Wake services for Norman “Jiggs” Kelly, 90, of Lake Andes were held Thursday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. A private funeral mass will be held with burial in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner, with Military Honors.

Norman Francis Kelly “Jiggs” was born south of Dante on October 22, 1928 to Francis “Pat” and Emma (Koupal) Kelly. He died Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at his home in Lake Andes.

Norman was the second of six children. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953. He received a medal of honor from the Korean Government in 2017. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

Norman worked on the dams in Pickstown and Pierre, drove truck, delivered propane for the Lake Andes Coop, ran a bar and worked for the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s department in Lake Andes.

Norman will be remembered for his enjoyment of playing 5pt Pitch, Cribbage and Pinochle with friends, hunting, fishing, as well as eating all types of wild game from snapping turtle to goose and donkey.

Thankful for having shared his life are his one brother, three sisters, his beloved children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many dear friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, son and a sister.
