MILDRED NIEHUS

Mildred Niehus, 91, died at Good Samaritan Society in Corsica on Monday, June 14, 2021. Funeral service was Thursday, June 17 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Geddes with burial following in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home.

Mildred Ann (Swanz) Niehus was born on January 11, 1930 to Isadore and Rose (Kubal) Swanz at their family farm at Wheeler. She graduated from Geddes High School in 1948.

During her junior and senior years of high school, she worked at the Geddes Cafe. She later worked at Marc’s Market in Platte in the produce department for 34 years. Millie was united in marriage to Joseph R. Niehus on November 23, 1948 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Geddes. She was a member of St.

Ann’s Catholic Church and the Alter Society.

Millie enjoyed reading, going to rummage sales, watching western movies, and having a hot cup of coffee, no matter the time of day.

Millie is survived by her 12 children: Maureen (Ron) Dufek, Geddes; Gene (Katie) Niehus, Wagner; Wayne (Bridget) Niehus, Phoenix, AZ, Barbara (Doug) Aslesen, Sioux Falls; Diane (Bill) Powers, Sonoma, CA; Colin (Paula) Niehus, Crooks; Natalie (Dave) Holstein, Corsica; Janice (Keith) Noack, Vacaville, CA; Nancy (Arden) Taylor, Northville; Nathan (Melanie) Niehus, Winner; Cole (Jane) Niehus, Omaha, NE; and James (Tammy) Niehus, Hendricks, MN.

Millie is also survived by her sisters Muriel (Janie) Kimbrell, Carmi, IL; Joan Watts, Lincoln, NE; Donna (Jack) Weber, Watertown; brother Gene Swanz, Belle Fourche; and her sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Swanz, Strandburg, Betty Niehus of Mitchell and Noreen Bridges of Lake Andes.

Millie was blessed with 34 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. She was lovingly known to many of them as Grandma Mill and enjoyed their many visits.

Millie passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91 years at the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica. She always told her kids to call when they got home. The family finds comfort knowing their mother is home in heaven, pain free, reunited with their dad, while continuing to watch over her growing family.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her parents Isadore and Rose Swanz, her grandson Drew Holstein, her sister and brother-in-law Doris and Alphonse Jaeger, her brother Don Swanz, and her brother-in-law Bob Kimbrell.
